Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician. Born on October 20, 1964, she is the 49th Vice-President of the United States. She is the first female vice-president and the highest ranking female politician in U.S history. As a member of the Democratic Party, she was the attorney general for California from 2011 to 2017 and a United States senator representing California in 2017-2021. Harris was born and was raised in Oakland, California. Her professional career started in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. The office was named San Francisco district attorney in 2003. In 2010, she was appointed Attorney General of California and was re-elected in 2014. Between 2017 and 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris beat Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate elections to become the second African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to serve as senator in the United States Senate. As a senator, Harris advocated for federal de-scheduling of healthcare, and cannabis legalization, a path to citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented, and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. In the news, attention was paid to her sharp examination of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings. This included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual abuse.
